INSTRUCTIONS
TO CONTRIBUTORS
Acta Toxicológica Argentina (Acta Toxicol. Argent.)
(ISSN 03279286) is the official journal of the Asociación
Toxicológica Argentina (Argentine Toxicological Association)
for scientific dissemination.
Acta Toxicológica Argentina (herein below "Acta")
is basically aimed at publishing original full-length papers,
short communications, reports on research in progress or review
papers, topics of interest to workers in Toxicology, book reviews,
technical communications as well as letters to the Editor. News
relevant to the different fields of Toxicology will also be
published.
ATA will publish articles written in either Spanish, Portuguese
or English. Every article will be evaluated by two examiners.
Only the Editorial Board will be responsible for selecting articles
with –that is, decisions about (a) rejected articles,
(b)accepted articles with , however, changes to be introduced
by authors, or (c) accepted articles with no changes whatsoever
are a privilege of the Editor Board. In all cases, authors will
receive an unsigned copy of the examiners’ evaluation.
Scientific original manuscripts submitted to the consideration
of the Editorial Board should adhere to the following basic
formal:
-Page 1: Title, and subtitle of paper. Author’s full
names; academic or professional affiliation, and complete name
of the laboratory or institution where research was done.
Complete address (city, State or Province, zip code, country,
e-mail, fhone number and fax number).
- Page 2: Title or paper in Spanish and English. A list of
three or four key words in Spanish or Portuguese and English
should be included.
- Page 3 onward: As a rule, full length papers should be divided
into sections headed by a caption: Introduction, Materials and
Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References,
caption of figures and caption of tables.
Full-length papers should not exceed eight papers. Text should
be typed with PC, on A4 paper, in double-spaced typing with
at least 4 cm upper lower, and left margin. Typescripts should
be submitted in triplicate. Besides the 3 copies of the manuscript,
authors are requested to submit the paper on diskette (3 ½”)
made in one fo the next word processing systems: Word for MS-DOS;
Word for MACINTOSH; Word Perfect for DOS indicating the program
and version used. Revised versions of the paper, because of
referee’s recommendations should always be accompanied
by a new diskette and 3 printouts of the manuscript.
Short communications should adhere to a similar format. However
it should contain no section headings. No Spanish summary is
required but text is supposed to contain, in a concise way,
every information relevant to the above mentioned headings (Introduction,
Materials and Methods, etc.). Short communications should not
exceed three pages.
Review papers, updating, and reports on research in progress
should be as concise as can be. Such articles should not exceed
three pages. Their wording should address a scientifically educated
readership that, however, can be unfamiliar with topics involved.
Review papers, updating, and reports on research in progress
previously requested to authors by the Editorial Board will
be privileged.
Book review should have been requested to authors by the Editor.
Authors should sustain their contention on the book submitted
to their attention. Besides, authors of any book review should
submit the following information: Title of the book in its original
language, full names of authors or editors of the book, edition
number of the book, translator’s name if any, publisher’s
full name, city, volume number if any, number of pages and publishing
years. The full name and academic or professional affiliation
of the author of any book review should be stated clearly. Book
review should not exceed two pages.
Technical communications should refer exclusively to modifications
in scientific methods, determinations or errors committed in
scientific methods, etc. Technical communications should not
exceed two pages. At the end of a communication, authors full
name and particulars should be clearly identified.
When submitting a full-length paper, authors should take the
following recommendation into account:
- On the upper right angle of every page, the last name (surname)
of author (or the first author) should be typed next to the
corresponding page number. Pages should also be paginated.
-When referring to chemicals, IUPAC standards should be preferred.
-Organisms should be denominated according to inter-nationals
standards. Gender and species should be stated unabridged. When
using a computer word processor, authors should use italics.
When using a typewriter, authors should underline.
-Illustrations (photographs, diagrams, etc.) should be made
on top quality materials, the technique of which should allow
illustration to be reproduced without special treatments whatsoever.
It is advisable that illustrations be the same size as an Acta
page. As regards illustrations that must be reduced, authors
should see to it that letters, figures, and/or any other element
in illustration be bigger-sized on the original so that such
letters, figures or elements be still clearly readable once
illustration has been reduced.
Illustrations should also be sent in triplicate ( one original
and two copies).
On the reverse of illustration the following elements should
be written with a soft lead pencil: Figure corresponding to
illustration, last name (surname) of author (or first author).
An arrow should point out the upper pan of illustration. Captions
to illustration should be typed on a separated sheet.
Authors should be aware that any extra change caused by the
printing of illustrations will be levied for each illustration.
-Tables and captions thereof should be submitted on separate
sheets. Each page should be paginated with Arabic numerals,
according to the order in which tables appear in article.
-Literature references in the text should be given at the
appropriate places by numbers between brackets. For example:
“Isoenzymes separation was performed by electrophoresis
according to a technique developed by Diestz and Lubrano (4)”.
When referring to an article written by more than one author,
the last name (surname) of the firs author will be followed
by “et al.” For example: “Castañé
et al. (5) have been the first researches in...”
- Literature references should be listed under the heading
“References”. References should be arranged according
to the numbers given to citations in the text of article. Format
of references is as follows:
- A paper published in a journal.

A bridged name of journals should be the abridged name that
a journal uses.
- Any exceptional modifications to the above mentioned instructions
that authors should request will be submitted to the attention
of the Editor.
Proofs will be sent to author whose address has been stated
in paper. Author should review proof and airmail proof back
to the Editor as soon as possible (with in 48 hours of receiving
proof, in the Argentine Republic).
Author, or first author will receive 10 off prints at no charge.
If author or authors request extra of prints, a charge will
be levied.
Author or authors should state the number of extra of prints
they wish to receive when they send back the reviewed proof
